We are now in a position to offer reasonably long term agistment (12 months for 2000 dse) to people that would like their stock to be part of our system. We have been rotationally grazing for about 8 years now and for about 7 of those years we have been using a LSS handling approach as we had that school here in 2003. The end result seems to be stock that are very happy and also a landscape that is happy too due to the amount of grass that has been produced when our rolling rainfall is only just over our average (275mm), we have an average rain of 260mm. While we live in a semi-arid environment we have fencing that is maybe more typical of higher rainfall land with about half our fencing 3 wire electric and the balance 5 plain wire, our paddocks are roughly 500ha in size and with more stock we can justify dividing them up further with more electric fencing. We will look at most options put forward by those that own stock, with the outcome being that we are paid for our grass and also our management skills and handling of the stock are respected. We were looking at long term lease of part of our land however this may mean that stock might be there when there was no grass and seeing the results of the system that we currently have in place, we felt that we didn't want to jepodise that. Anyone that is interested is welcome to contact us and we can show them how we monitor the feed available as well as provide budgets for feed and give 2-3 months notice of needing to remove stock etc.
